OXFORD – Nominations are being accepted by the Oxford County Farm Service Agency from eligible farmers and landowners who would like to be listed on the election ballot for this December’s County Committee elections.

The agency’s county committees represent farmers in their local communities and make decisions on crop bases and yields, commodity loans, conservation programs, disaster payments and other federal farm assistance programs.

“It is very important that producers become involved in this local election process,” said Laura M. Rand, the agency’s county director.

Nomination forms are available from the agency’s office. Individuals may nominate themselves or another person, but that person must also sign the nominating petition. Nomination forms must be returned to the county office by Sept. 5. Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters in late November and must be returned by Dec. 1. Elected members and alternates will take office Jan. 1.

For election purposes, the county is divided into three districts. Each district holds an election once every three years. This year, elections will be held for the townships of Sumner, Hartford, West Paris, Buckfield, Hebron, Oxford and Otisfield.
