Pat Morin fires off a no-hitter, striking out seven batters.

AUGUSTA – Pat Morin threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out seven while surrendering one walk, as Zone I regular-season champion Brewer cruised to a 12-0 win over Mid Coast in Maine State American Legion tourney at Morton Field Sunday afternoon.

“I just tried to get ahead early mixing up my first pitch to keep Mid Coast off balance,” said Morin.

It worked to perfection as Morin needed only 79 pitches to register the win.

While Morin kept the Mid Coast bats silent, Jason Harvey was a one-man wrecking crew for the Brewer Falcons as he drilled a pair of home-runs ,including a grand slam and a single, to drive in eight runs.

“Harvey has been on a tear the whole summer batting over .500 with six regular season home runs,” said Brewer coach Dave Morris. “He showed why he was the Zone I player of the year. He has led us all season.”

“I was surprised that they gave me anything at all to hit today, but both home runs came on fastballs straight down the middle,” said Harvey.

Brian Gerish looked sharp in the first two innings, matching Morin with goose eggs on the scoreboard, but a pair of walks and two singles in the bottom of the third inning accounted for all the runs Brewer would need.

The fourth inning saw the wheels come off for Mid Coast as an error and three consecutive singles set the stage for Harvey who blasted a 420-foot grand slam to put the game out of reach. Harvey punctuated the victory in the bottom of the seventh inning again, drilling a three-run blast that mercifully ended the game with a 10-run rule.
