The technology park will be environmentally friendly, developers say.

PARIS – The Technology Park Development Corp. announced a contest Friday to name the proposed technology park and design a logo.

The technology park will be built on 161 acres atop Pikes Hill and overlook Norway Lake. The entrance will be on Roberts Road.

The corporation is an affiliate of Western Maine Development, which is an affiliate of the Growth Council of Oxford Hills.

Marcy Broughter, development manager for the Growth Council, said for background information that it’s important for designers to know that the park is designed “green,” meaning it will be environmentally friendly.

“The buildings will enhance the environment and the natural beauty that surrounds them,” Broughter said. “The building materials will be earth-friendly and the building systems will be designed to work with nature.”

“The vision for the park includes high-quality land use, planning and architectural design in a supportive campus environment,” she said.

Broughter said that Growth Council employees Barbara Olson and Brett Doney held a logo contest for that organization that was very successful in 1994.

“We decided to try it again,” she said. “The tech park is a community project, so this is another way to get the community involved.”

Broughter said all entries must be submitted by Aug. 29 and may be sent to: Tech Park Development Corp., c/o Marcy Broughter, 150 Main St., South Paris, Me. 04281. She asked that each entry include the sender’s name, mailing address and phone number.

Broughter said all artwork must be in printed form, and that disk or e-mail artwork will not be accepted.

A committee has been formed to judge the entries and all entries become property of Western Maine Development.

The winner/winners will receive public recognition as well as a gift basket from the Maine Discoveries store in Norway.

For further information, phone Broughter at 743-8830, extension 150, or e-mail marcy@EnterpriseMaine.com.

The winner/winners will be announced by Sept. 21.
