An additional charge of theft

was dropped.

PARIS – A convicted sex offender from Oxford received a two-month jail sentence Monday after he violated his parole by committing burglary.

Christopher Brackett, 31, of 115 Cheryl Lane pleaded guilty to burglary at the J&R Redemption Center on Main Street, Norway, on June 1. At the time, Brackett was on probation after serving nine months of a three-year sentence for having unlawful sexual contact with a male child under the age of 14 on Feb. 26, 2000 in Oxford.

Oxford County Superior Court Judge Thomas Humphrey agreed to drop a charge of theft as part of the negotiated plea agreement. He sentenced Brackett to 60 days on the probation violation.

On the burglary charge, Humphrey sentenced Brackett to three years in jail, all of it suspended, and three years probation, during which he must receive substance abuse counseling and have no contact with any child under the age of 16, and no contact with Judy Allen, owner of J &R Redemption Center.

Brackett will receive credit for the 64 days he’s already spent in the Oxford County Jail awaiting Monday’s hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne said Allen was on the phone with her boyfriend inside the redemption center when she saw Brackett inside the building. Brackett was attempting to cross over to the adjacent dog-grooming business, 2BK9, owned by Jennifer Cousins. On his way over, Brackett stole around $20 from Allen after rummaging through her drawers, Beauchesne said.

Beauchesne said Brackett readily admitted to the incident when confronted about it by Norway Patrolman Shane White.
