LEWISTON – My name is Megan Beliveau. I am 11 years old, and I’m going into the sixth grade at Holy Cross School. I live in Lewiston with my mom, my dad and my sister. We have many fish for pets in our aquarium. I’m the kind of kid who likes to read books, swim and be adventurous.

The title of the book I recommend is “Holes” by Louis Sachar. It is a mystery, adventure story. The main character is Stanley Yelnats. He is at Camp Green Lake in Texas, which is a camp where bad kids go, and they have to dig holes. It’s always hot. At Camp Green Lake there is no lake, just a desert.

The main character’s biggest problem is that he is not supposed to be at Camp Green Lake because he didn’t do anything wrong. Also, another problem was he was lost on the desert because he was trying to find one of his friends, Zero, who ran away from the camp.

The most exciting part of this book was when the yellow-spotted lizards were on and around Stanley and Zero. It was exciting because if you get bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard, you will die. That part of the book made me feel like I wanted to read on and figure out what was going to happen because I didn’t know if the yellow-spotted lizards were going to bite them or not.

You should read this book too if you like mysteries and adventure. This book is so good because everything fits together like a puzzle.

It’s the best book I’ve ever read. I give it five stars! * * * * *

Megan participates in the Hooked on Books parent/child book group at the Lewiston Public Library. Hooked on Books meets once a month on a Saturday.

After a brief group discussion, the children and their parents work together on a book-related project. Read “Holes” and find out why the children planted onions after reading this story.

Anyone interested in joining the group may register through the Children’s Room. For more information and meeting dates, call 784-0135, extension 4.
