RANGELEY – While in jail on a probation violation charge, a Rangeley man was charged with having unlawful sexual contact with a 5-year-old boy.

The arrest of Patrick Crocker, 38, came out of a joint investigation between Rangeley Police Officer Steve Townsend and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Sexual Assault Investigator David St. Laurent.

It began in early July after the boy alleged to a guardian that Crocker had sexual contact with him three summers ago at a Rangeley residence.

The boy, who is now 8 years old and lives in Rangeley, told police during a July 28 interview that the incident only happened once, St. Laurent. The investigator said Crocker and the boy were “family acquaintances.”

Crocker, who was being held at the Franklin County Detention Center on a probation violation for a previous offense, was rearrested at the jail, St. Laurent said.

Because the alleged victim is under the age of 16 and at least 10 years younger than Crocker, the Rangeley man was charged with a felony count of unlawful sexual contact, punishable by up to five years in prison.

St. Laurent asks that any one with more information about the case contact the Rangeley Police Department at 864-3579 or the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at 778-2680.
