No charges were issued following the crash.

OXFORD – Police attributed seat-belt use for saving the life of a Canton woman who was struck from behind on Route 26 Monday morning.

Oxford Police Sgt. Theron Bickford said Pamela Blodgett, 35, was traveling south on Route 26 when she stopped to make a left turn into Industrial Drive.

Bickford said that when Blodgett’s car was stopped, a car driven by Lurana McAllister, 82, Paris, struck her car.

Blodgett only received minor injuries, and was treated and released at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Bickford said McAllister wasn’t injured.

He estimated that McAllister was traveling about 50 miles per hour at the point of impact.

“I was very surprised that she wasn’t injured more,” Bickford said. “If she wasn’t wearing a seat belt she would have been injured much worse. The whole rear end of her car pushed right up and in.”

Bickford said Blodgett’s 1995 Mercury Tracer was totaled. McAllister’s 1999 Mercury Sable had an estimated $3,000 in damage.

He said there were no summonses or charges issued.
