MINOT – Old Woodman Hill Road will be off limits to through traffic and no traffic will be allowed to exit Woodman Hill Road onto Minot Avenue while it is being rebuilt.

Selectmen took the action Monday night at the request of Pratt and Son, the contractor reconstructing Route 121, or Minot Avenue.

In the best of times, the intersection of Old Woodman Hill Road and Minot Avenue across from Minot Country Store is a hazard, especially for traffic entering the avenue. Traffic control workers at the construction site have discovered it is more complicated now.

Selectmen authorized Road Manager Arlan Saunders to convey their decision to the contractor and see to it that necessary traffic control signs are put up.

Saunders noted that the construction project will continue through the fall with work concentrated between the bridge at Hackett Mills and the Minot Methodist Church.

A Lower Road resident told selectmen that more east-bound motorists are using that road to avoid the reconstruction. He expressed concern about the wear and tear on a road meant for light traffic.

Selectmen noted the project includes redoing a few hundred feet at both ends of Lower Road and advised Saunders he should prepare an estimate for fixing up the remainder for possible consideration in next year’s road budget.

Upon discussing a number of code enforcement issues, selectmen agreed to convene at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in West Minot to view progress made in cleaning up the Bryer property and to take a quick tour by a possible stump dump opposite 743 Center Minot Hill Road. They also may see a few other properties that Code Enforcement Officer Ken Pratt has been working on.

Prompted by a Woodman Hill Road resident, selectmen agreed to have Pratt check out whether work being done at 62 Woodman Hill Road conforms with what is stipulated in the building permit.

After reviewing circumstances surrounding David Wyman’s request that the board waive the $2,000 impact fee on his home building permit, selectmen determined that as Wyman’s application was completed June 11, after the May 28 date when the impact fee ordinance went into effect, the fee will be assessed.

Selectmen reported that, to date, four people have applied for the recently posted town administrator position. The deadline for applications is Sept. 1.
