1920 – 2003
FARMINGTON – Oliver “Bill” Ouellette, 83, a longtime resident of Main Street in Jay, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, at Franklin Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born on June 14, 1920, in Jay, the last of 13 children of Leon and Clara Coulombe Ouellette. He attended the grammar schools of Jay and Jay High School. In 1941 he began working for International Paper Co. at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay in the boiler house, steam plant and as a crane operator, retiring in 1982, after 41 years of service.
On June 17, 1946 he married Lorraine Breton at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He was a 3rd & 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 320 of Jay and was the custodian for the K of C Hall for 15 years.
“Bill” was a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bird watching, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years of Jay; a daughter, Theresa Mitchell and her husband Lee of Jay; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by Peter Bernard whom he and his wife raised; seven brothers, Leon Jr., Theodore, Omer, Romeo, Rosario, Laureat, Lucien; five sisters, Laura Ouellette, Lucille Therrien, Emelia Poitras, Sophie Bernard and Elumina Filteau.
