1924 – 2003
WEST PARIS – Susan Ruth Doughty, 79, of Maple Street, died Aug. 5, at her home.
She was born in Norway, on Sept. 14, 1924, the daughter of Herman Elbridge and Marion (Libby) Woodworth and was educated in Norway schools.
During World War II she was a pipefitter on submarines, she later worked in the local shoe shops and Penley’s Mill before retiring to become a homemaker.
She married Donald Doughty on April 10, 1954, he died in November 1991. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Aziscoos Campers Association and a member of the West Paris Grange.
She loved to entertain and camp with her many friends on Aziscoos Lake. She had wintered in Florida, for several years.
She is survived by one son, Herman L. Doughty and his wife Jolene of West Paris; three daughters, Barbara Eccleston and her husband Ken of New York, Susan Joanne Bean of North Carolina, and Dawn Chamberlain of Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her faithful dog, “Simba.”
She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Estes and Arline Laflin; and her friend and companion of later years, Orville “Dave” Davis.
