DETROIT (AP) – Investigators were examining the contents of a storage locker rented by a pair of Michigan State University students reported missing after failing to return from a stay in Massachusetts.

Danela Isabela Alfaro-Lopez, 19, of Dearborn, and Justin Craig Gouveia, 21, of Lowell, Mass., last were seen leaving a bed-and-breakfast in Yarmouth, Mass., on July 26.

The couple was supposed to meet Gouveia’s parents at a rented cottage in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on July 27. When they didn’t appear his parents became alarmed.

Maine State Police say they haven’t been asked to assist in the search for the couple.

The Wayne County sheriff’s department was looking through Gouveia’s journal, which they found in the Lansing storage locker, spokesman John Roach said Thursday. School-related items such as audiotapes of lectures and computer disks containing class assignments also were found in the locker.

“At this point, it hasn’t really turned up anything that raises any red flags,” he said.

The department also is examining files on Alfaro-Lopez’s computer, Roach said.

“Really right now it’s just kind of fact finding and trying to assemble a picture of their relationship and of their life overall to give us a sense of any issues that were going on or any plans they may have been making,” he said.

Alfaro-Lopez and Gouveia had reservations at the Blueberry Manor in Yarmouth for July 25 and 26, Yarmouth police said.

Inn staff told police the couple arrived about 2 p.m. on July 25, left, and returned about midnight. They left again early the next morning, and have not been heard from since. They didn’t check out, but left the room key and enough money to cover their stay, police said.
