1905 – 2003
NORWAY – Lucia Alberta (Mayberry) Verrill, 98, of Bryant Pond, died Saturday, Aug. 9, at Norway.
She was born in Oxford on Aug. 29, 1905, the daughter of William L. and Daisy Robinson Mayberry. She grew up on Pigeon Hill and was educated in local schools.
She moved to Rhode Island in 1923 and worked as a practical nurse in Rhode Island and Maine into her 80s. She returned to Maine in 1956.
She was a former member of the Cooperative Extension and the Grange, and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was to have received the Boston Cane this year.
She is survived by one daughter, Ernestine Riley and her husband William of Bryant Pond; four grandchildren, Kathleen Berberian of Bryant Pond, Candace Sumrall of Texas, Crystal Brennan of James Town, R.I., and Kelli Healy of Middletown, R.I.; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Madison of Middletown, R.I., Sarah of Woodstock, Nicole of Florida, and Ian of Texas; five great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alexa and Natalie, all of Bryant Pond, Amara of Florida, and Scott of Texas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Eugene Verrill in 1967; and three brothers, William, Kenneth and Milton.
