AUBURN – Temple Shalom Synagogue-Center will offer a two-evening crash course in Hebrew literacy, “Decoding the Squiggles,” followed by an eight-week Hebrew reading class, focusing on the Jewish Prayerbook, starting Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The Hebrew literacy course will be on two consecutive Wednesdays, Aug. 13 and 20, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. By the end of those two evenings, students will be able to recognize all Hebrew letters and vowels. There are no prerequisites for the class.

The Hebrew reading course will be on eight Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Aug. 27. Anyone signing up for this class must have completed the Hebrew literacy course or be able to read the Hebrew alphabet.

These are two separate courses. They are open to anyone 16 years or older, whether or not they are members of Temple Shalom. There is no fee for members. Nonmembers are asked to pay a fee of $25 for each course. All students will be asked to pay a small materials fee.

All classes will be at Temple Shalom, 74 Bradman St., and will be taught by Cantor Hillel Katzir, spiritual leader of Temple Shalom.
