I take issue with editorial Sunday in the Sun Journal. In it the paper states that “acrimony has turned to pure poison” with regard to the contract negotiations between the city and the police union.

This description of recent events, like all media hype, is terribly inflated. The paper also suggests that arbitration may be the only solution, since “an impasse has been reached” and “the people of Auburn are caught in the middle”

With all due respect to the author, I would like to know how many “people of Auburn ” he has spoken to. If more knew how often their neighborhoods are not patrolled, how much training their officers are not receiving, and how much equipment (tires included) their cars do not have, there would be no question as to what the “concerns” of the citizens would be.

Is it time to resolve this dispute? Yes. Personally, I am tired of kissing an unshaven face. Perhaps if the city had not put a pay cut on the table, Auburn citizens would still be none the wiser to all of the benefits they aren’t getting from their police department.
