MONTVILLE – Descendants of John and Mary Rand Jones, children Sarah Furbush, John A. Jones, Mary Titcomb, Charles D. Jones, B. Frank Jones, will assemble at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, as guests of Edna and Elmin Mitchell, Edna’s Way, Montville.

The lunch at noon is potluck. Bring food, utensils and folding chairs. A meeting will follow.

Beedy family

WILTON – Dorrie White and Debbie McGrath have created a theme of Hawaiian Luau for the 56th Beedy reunion at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Kineowatha Park. Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion in Hawaiian or flower shirts, leis, grass skirts and hats. There will also be a Hula Gong Show.

The meeting will start at 11 and end before the potluck lunch at noon. The annual auction will follow. Bring attic treasures, homemade items, crafts, preserves, canned items or baked goods.

The 2003 officers are: president, Terry Corson of Kingfield; vice president, Clarence Gordon of Livermore; secretary, Carol Lanier of Turner; Paula Enman of Wilton; and treasurer, Adelia Meyer of Solon.

The 2003 food committee consists of Lois Gordon of Livermore, Nellie Tidswell of Auburn and Carol Lanier of Turner.

Conant gathering

CANTON – The decendants of Everett and Lurania Turner Conant will meet for the 111th reunion on Sunday Aug. 17, at the home of Norris and Jackie Conant, 374 Turner St. There will be a potluck lunch at noon. Attendees are asked to bring lawnchairs.

NORWAY – Descendants of George and Florence Hill gathered for their 15th family reunion Aug. 3 on Frost Hill. The family property is owned by their grandson, Robert Thomas, and has been in the family for 84 years. Limerick families brought the youngest member, 1-year-old great-great-great-granddaughter Adriana Walsh and the oldest member, 70-year-old grandson James Henry Hill.

The Hills’ four remaining children, Ellen, Charles, Wilson, Rachel and Rebecca, were unable to attend. George and Florence also had 10 other children, all now deceased: Roscoe, Hartwell, James, Harold, George, Gertrude, Keith, Esther, Ruth and Floriston.

Rachel Hill had made a quilt to be raffled. Vernita Thomas won the quilt.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Robyn Hill-Stitson. She donated her winnings back to the treasury for the 100th anniversary expenses. Total balance is $295.02.

McLean reunion

PERU – The children of the late Russell and Jessie Crawford McLean held a family reunion on July 19 at the Jackie and Russell McLean Jr. home on the Dickvale Road. It is expected to become a yearly event.

There were 72 members present, which included brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, aunts, cousins from both sides of the family. They had a Chinese auction and a jail to help raise funds for future gatherings. There were picture boards with lots of old and new photos of family members, past and present. Seven of the nine McLean siblings were present.

Additon family

LEEDS – The Additon family held its 73rd reunion on Aug. 10 at the home of Errol and Kathy Additon. Those attending are descendants of Thomas and Anna (Beals) Additon, who married in Leeds in 1821.

The oldest persons present were Richard Mansur of Augusta and Harold Meade of Bridgton, both 90. The youngest were Chelsea and Caleb Freda, twin daughter and son of Corey and Jill Additon Freda of Leeds.

Rebecca Hodgkin of Bozeman, Mont., came from the greatest distance. Other states represented were Illinois, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Family members reported eight births and four marriages. A resolution was adopted in memory of William Thomas of Falmouth.

Brian Hodgkin of Gorham presided at the business meeting with 84 in attendance. Officers elected for 2004 are Clyde Hodgkin of Yarmouth, president; Brian Hodgkin of Gorham, vice president; Douglas Hodgkin of Lewiston, secretary; and Donald Smith of Wellesley, Mass., treasurer. Members of the Finance Committee are Joseph Bugel of Auburn, Elise Hodgkin of Yarmouth and Ellis Additon of Portland.

After the potluck dinner and the business meeting, Errol Additon conducted an auction. Winner of the raffle for the homemade quilt was Connie Foster of Litchfield. Winner of the 50/50 drawing was Wilma Bradford of Bangor.

Walker family

GEORGETOWN – The descendants of Jay and Marion Walker of Sabattus recently held their 33rd annual family reunion at Reid State Park.

The nine children of Jay and Marion Walker were all in attendance: Helen Morrill of Auburn, Phyllis Splain of Sabattus, Priscilla Fletcher of Winslow, Jean Tarr of Enfield Conn., Jane Sloat of Auburn, Jay Walker Jr. of Fairfield, Barbara Lyman of Greene, Robert Walker of Jefferson and John Walker of Sabattus. There were a total of 97 people at the reunion.

Those attending played a variety of games. The reunion committee made a cookbook of old family recipes and held a 50/50 drawing to help fund next year’s reunion. A welcome address was given by Jane Sloat, who announced the activities that would be held during the day.

The oldest member in attendance was Helen Morrill; youngest, Brianna Fletcher, 10-weeks, daughter of Richard and Tamara Fletcher and granddaughter of Priscilla and Richard Fletcher. Traveling the farthest wre Pamela and Richard Perron and family from Fort Drum, N.Y., where Perron has been stationed in the Army.

Reed gathering

HEBRON – The descendants of Mary Elizabeth Stewart and Charles Franklin Reed held their annual reunion on Aug. 3 at the home of Rich and Jane Hatch with 52 family members and four guests present.

After a picnic lunch, the business meeting was held with Joyce Poole, president, presiding. There was a moment of silence in memory of two departed members, Reginald Rose and Joseph Clinton.

It was voted to held next year’s reunion on the second Sunday in August with Rich and Jane again hosting the event. Thanks were extended to them for hosting this year’s reunion.

Officers elected for the ensuing year were: president, Joyce Poole; first vice president, Jeannine Wilkins; second vice president, Doris Girardin; treasurer, Shirley Hatch; secretary, Norma Gilbert. Recognition was given to the youngest member present, Ashley Hatch, and to the oldest member, Winifred Rose.

It was voted to donate to the Canton Historical Society a dress from the early 1920s belonging to Sarah Reed, as well as a picture of Sarah wearing the dress.

Before the meeting adjourned, family members recalled the names of the Reed descendants, numbering nine, and the total descendants of these nine, which was 31. It was also mentioned that Mary Elizabeth Stewart was born in Nova Scotia.

Following the meeting, a social time was held along with games and a pie-eating contest.

Members attended from Auburn, Lewiston, Poland, Livermore, Hebron, Livermore Falls, Wales, Buxton, Buckfield, Jay, Lisbon, Canton and Swampscott and Danvers, Mass.
