OXFORD – A man wanted in Wisconsin on a charge of escape was arrested at an Oxford lumber mill Thursday after police received a tip, Capt. James P. Miclon of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department said.
Curtis Harris Jr., 35, was booked at the Oxford County Jail in Paris on a charge of being a fugitive from justice, Miclon said.
“I received a telephone tip (Wednesday) that Mr. Harris was wanted in the state of Wisconsin for escape. He has been living in South Paris, then Woodstock since May 2003, with his girlfriend and their four young children,” he said. The family was living at 165 Perkins Valley Road.
The captain said he ran Harris’ name through the National Crime Information Center and learned he was wanted by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin on a felony warrant for escape dated May 29.
He said he understood Harris was convicted of drug possession last November.
Miclon said he and Sgt. Gary L. Hill went to Record Lumber Mill on East Oxford Road where Harris worked and arrested him at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Wisconsin officials will come to Maine to return Harris there, he said.
“We are holding him for them. The jail said that he may not be in front of a judge until Monday,” Miclon said.
