PHILADELPHIA – Sam Leavitt, a senior at Leavitt Area High School of Turner, has returned from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s National Leadership Meeting. Leavitt is the son of John and Paula Leavitt. His chapter adviser is Sharon Hathaway.
As state president, Leavitt led the Maine delegation at the organization’s annual leadership training conference. His election as the 2003-2004 state president of the FCCLA Maine Association earned him one of the highest leadership honors a member can receive. Nearly 5,000 members, advisers, alumni and guests attended the meeting.
Leavitt was involved in a number of leadership training sessions, including a state presidents’ workshop, where he made plans to guide state participation in national programs, membership and public relations.
As a state president, Leavitt had the opportunity to participate in a professional leadership training track, which addressed the leadership management styles. The training included topics such as leadership styles, networking, accountability, public relations, fund-raising techniques, community outreach and goal setting.
The national meeting centered on the student-developed theme, “FCCLA Wants You: Accept the Challenge.” The theme encouraged members to “accept the challenge” of building a successful future by exploring career options, addressing their community needs and focusing on family relations.
Leavitt will work with other association student officers in Maine to plan leadership meetings, training workshops and issue sessions.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Science Education.
