JAY – A 47-year-old Leeds man was killed early Saturday in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Crash Road. A friend who had been searching for him found his body late Saturday afternoon.

Dwayne Burgess, driving a 1999 Harley-Davidson southerly on the Crash Road, went to the right off the roadway in an area known as the S curves, Police Chief Larry White Sr. stated in a press release Sunday. The motorcycle traveled about 100 feet off the pavement, striking some large rocks and going airborne before coming to rest down an embankment, according to White.

Burgess reportedly left Ma Ducks Bar on Intervale Road, Route 140, and headed to the Crash Road, the police report said. Friends became concerned when he was not located later in the day and started searching for him. His body was found at 4:13 p.m. Saturday.

The cause is under investigation.

Burgess’s body was taken to Finley’s Funeral Home in Livermore Falls. The motorcycle was towed to Hilltop Collision Center in Jay.

Jay Police Department Sgt. Charles Keene is the primary investigating officer. White and Jay officers Eric Goodrow, Michael Pike, and Kevin McCutchin and Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandy Burke assisted at the scene.

The Jay Fire Department responded and assisted with traffic control.
