LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club awarded grants to several organizations at a recent meeting.

Attending the meeting to receive grants on behalf of their organization wer: Rachel Green, $425 to Lots to Gardens; Camp Susan Curtis, $800 to support two disadvantaged children at summer camp, Brenda Fountain accepting; Dr. Robert Bucket, $500 to the Lewiston Youth Empowerment Program, at-risk children 12 to 15 years; Good Shepherd Food Bank, $500 accepted by Betty Perreault; Big Brothers Big Sisters, $500 accepted by Fryeburg Rotarian Preston Jump; and Meghan Trimble, $175 to enable her to attend a math and science camp.

Also, Liberty Festival, $500; help a polio victim in the Philippines purchase leg braces and crutches, $200; Rotary Scholarship Endowment Fund, $1,200; and five $1,000 scholarships to students graduating from each of the area’s five high schools.

In preparation for the Rotary International Centennial to be celebrated in 2005, each Rotary Club worldwide is preparing special centennial projects. The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club membership chose as their project the erection of a large street clock at the Auburn Festival Plaza. The clock’s four faces will be lit and will display the Rotary International wheel logo. Due to the cost, the project will be funded over the next three years.

Each year Rotary Club members conduct several fund-raising events in support of their charitable endeavors. This past year was no exception, with the club raising and distributing more than $15,000.
