Keeping tradition alive

The Project Graduation committee would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the many individuals and businesses in the community whose contributions helped make this year’s event a huge success.

This annual tradition, now adopted by many area high schools, was started 25 years ago right here in Oxford Hills. We would also like to thank the many businesses and individuals who donated to the Price is Right and the Chinese Auction fund-raisers.

Thanks for your support in keeping this tradition alive in Oxford Hills.

Outstanding support

I would like to extend a huge thanks to all who participated in the Special Olympics Maine fund-raiser at Irving Gas Stations on June 28. Specifically, thanks to West Paris Old Home Days for donating the dunk tank, Dane Tripp for organizing efforts in South Paris and Bethel, all the police officers who volunteered to pump gas for the day and all of the teams, coaches and athletes who participated in the day.

Maine and Oxford County are proud to have such charitable organizations providing such support to our athletes. We hope to continue this partnership for years to come.

Thanks, Wilton

Aug. 1 and 2, 2003, were the most exciting and rewarding days of our life.

It took 148 years for our town of Wilton, Iowa, to meet and visit our roots in Wilton, Maine.

We were overwhelmed with the warm hospitality and genuine kindness shown us. Your town was so appropriately decorated in red, white and blue banners, which was truly heartwarming.

The lovely reception at town hall, the delicious blueberry breakfast, being honored in your commemorative parade, the precious commemorative coin, the Maine quarters, the races, craft fairs, Civil War reenactment, the Loon-Maine-ia auction, our visit to the Wilton Historical Society Museum, Wilton Public Library, the square dance, meeting Anthony Brown-Hovelt, the District Counselor in Wilton, England, our Mother Country, meeting others from “Wilton” and the grand finale of a one-hour-long beautiful display of fireworks over Wilson Lake. You had it all!

Our gratitude to our host Clint Cushman and hostess Ruth Marden and Peter Nielsen, the town manager, and to Shannon Smith, the bicentennial organizer…thanks to all!

Congratulations on your bicentennial year and may God continue to bless you.

George and Thelma Nopoulos, Wilton, Iowa
