FARMINGTON – The Western Mountains Alliance will be receiving $100,000 over the next two years to do some strategic planning and marketing associated with its work in Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, and Piscataquis counties.

It will also buy some much-needed phone, camera, and computer equipment. It’s all thanks to an anonymous donor.

“This gift comes at a critical time in our development as we continue to expand our sustainable development work here in western Maine,” said Deb Burd, who has directed the 15-year-old nonprofit organization for almost 10 years.

“With three staff and a growing number of programs including a guaranteed low-interest loan program for the region’s farmers and a program designed to build the capacity of the region’s leaders, the alliance was ripe for some support to help build its organizational capacity,” she said.

Established in 1988, the Western Mountains Alliance strives to improve the quality of life and to strengthen the regional identity of the western mountains region of Maine. For more information about its programs, log onto www.westernmountainsalliance.org
