NORWAY – She’s been fiddling since age 7, and now she’s formed her own band.
This Saturday, 19-year-old Lewiston resident Erica Brown will perform with The Bluegrass Connection at the Main Street Center for the Arts, 430 Main St. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Brown, who has produced and released three solo CDs, has teamed up with her brother, 16-year-old Daniel Brown, who discovered the mandolin at age 10 while attending many weekend bluegrass festivals with his sister and family.
The other members of the band are guitarist Lincoln Meyers and bass player Ken Taylor.
At age 9, Brown was traveling throughout New England, Canada and Louisiana with the Maine French Fiddlers. Prior to forming her own band, she performed with Mac McHale and The Old-Time Radio Gang for five years.
A winner of numerous fiddling contests throughout New England and Canada, Brown was a member of the Bates College “Fighting Bobcats” Orchestra for five years and participated in the Maine All-State Music Festival for two years. She has helped bring music into several elementary schools by holding workshops and performing for the students.
This will be her second appearance at the Main Street Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $18 and are available at the Maine Discoveries store, 356 Main St., Norway, or by calling 743-8557.
