1922 – 2003

LEWISTON – Manley D. Hutchinson, 81, of E. Poland passed away on Aug. 19, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born on May 15, 1922, in Gardiner, the son of Donald and Helen (Chambers) Hutchinson. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during Wprld War II. He was involved in the first wave invasion at Normandy, was a POW, and a three-time Purple Heart recipient.

He retired in the early 1980’s having worked at Jeda Shoe Factory and in various other capacities throughout Lewiston/Auburn including positions as a cook.

He has resided in E. Poland for the last six years. He was a member of the American Legion, Mechanic Falls and of the First Assembly of God church in Lewiston. He enjoyed reading, quilting, walking his dog Benji, and was an eccentric craft maker.

He is survived by his children, David and his wife Marcella of Lewiston, Charles of Columbia, S.C., Donald and his wife Barbara of Turner, John and his wife Maryann of E. Poland, Timothy and his wife Sherry of Merrimack, N.H., Kathleen and her husband Roger Castonguay of Lewiston, Ruth Theriault and her husband Ronald of Mechanic Falls, Janice Lovelace and her husband Thomas of Clover, S.C.; brothers, James of Auburn, Hazen and his wife Eleanor of Poland, Herbert and his wife Edi of Windsor, Vt.; sister, Martha Berwick of Buckfield; stepmother, Jane Hutchinson of Rockport, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Debra Boucher; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene; son, Ronald in 1983; grandson, Michael Theriault; brother, Addrean; sister, Ila Rich; daughter-in-law, Margaret; brother-in-law, Wilmuth Berwick; sister-in-law, Eva; and his dog, “Benji.”
