1920 – 2003

LEWISTON – After a courageous battle with failing health over the last several years, Shirley R. French, 83, of Marshwood Health Care, died with her family at her side on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Born in Lewiston, Aug. 13, 1920, Mrs. French attended schools at Minot Corner and the Lewiston-Auburn area. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1938.

She was a life-long resident of Mechanic Falls and surrounding communities. She had been a homemaker all of her life as well as a devoted wife and mother. She married James L. French, Jr. on March 31, 1939.

Survivors include two children, Brian French and his wife, Gloria of Mechanic Falls and Linda French of Rochester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Mrs. French was predeceased in January 1987 by her husband of 48 years, James L. French Jr.
