1921 – 2003
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Sophie J. McConnell, 81, formerly of Rumford, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the North Fulton Regional Hospital. A lifelong resident of the Rumford area where she had resided on Holyoke Avenue until moving to Roswell, Ga., in the fall of 2002.
She was born in Rumford, on Oct. 7, 1921, the daughter of Anthony and Sophie (Stapinavich) Kaladin, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1939.
She had worked as a sales clerk at R.C. Jewelers on Congress in Rumford for many years until retirement in 1985, and was formerly a member of the Robert Shand Post 1641, V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She was married in Mexico, on July 3, 1947 to the late Chester “Chet” McConnell who died in Derby, Conn., on May 8, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol O’Buck and husband Richard of Roswell, Ga.; a son, Robert K. McConnell and wife Barbara of Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren, Arika and Rick O’Buck of Roswell, Ga., Brett O’Buck of Richmond, Ky., Ryan and Trevor McConnell of Bloomington, Ind., a great-grandson, Jacob O’Buck of Richmond, Ky; and a nephew, Tom Norris and wife Nancy of South Rumford.
