AUBURN – Thirty-five area women and their daughters participated in the fifth annual I’ve Got the Power Conference at Central Maine Community College. The purpose is to give women the opportunity to learn more about careers that are not traditional for women.

“These careers may pay more money and may offer more job satisfaction than the jobs women might typically consider,” said Kathleen Harrison, gender equity coordinator at the college. “Non-traditional jobs are not for everyone, but women should know what their options are. It’s about choice.”

The conference is sponsored by the Central Maine Coalition for Women in Trades and Technical Occupations, which includes the Abused Women’s Advocacy Program, Career Center, Central Maine Community College, Hammond Lumber, H.E. Callahan Construction, Lewiston Adult Education, Lewiston Housing Authority, Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community, Maine Department of Human Services, Maine Department of Labor and Women Unlimited.
