I was asked if I had seen the letter from the Edward Little Class of 1953 about the worn out and unkempt look of the high school. (Aug. 5)
I went back to locate it and want to voice what I feel others should have. Ms. Cotter needs to realize several things. It was summer vacation and the rooms were being cleaned from top to bottom, this includes windows, walls and carpets. And some workers may have taken a week or two off for some well needed vacation.
The maintenance work force is constantly being put on cutting block as well as their budget. All employees work hard and have so much to deal with, but they do take pride in their building and work for wages lower then they could get elsewhere.
Many of the workers have a lot more work then they had in the past with an older building, vandalism and less staff.
Taxes in Auburn are high, but educational prices have been rising. This building is not new, the classes are larger and the budgets are stretched. But to insinuate the condition is caused by a lack of maintenance or the teachers’ lack of respect is incorrect.
Ms. Cotter should come in and work a week there to see the hard workers, dedicated to their task and in need of praise.
