Superintendent urges staff to move forward

JAY – There is some work that needs to be done, the new Jay superintendent told school staff, and “we can do it.”

Jay Superintendent Robert Wall unveiled his plan Monday to move the Jay School Department forward to better serve the needs of students.

Wall plans to direct staff to continue work on aligning the district’s curriculum with state and federal education standards and develop a local assessment system for each of the subject areas.

“We’re going to work on these things,” Wall said. “They’re good for kids, good for their future … Our standards are probably higher … We intend to do a good job and we don’t need a mandate to make them happen.”

Wall’s plan promotes optimizing ability to serve students, personal mastery to personalize and expand student learning options, change mental models in a way that best serves students, and team learning to work together to get right resources to do the job that needs to be done.

“I know we’re all eager to learn and we need to pass it on,” Wall said.

Wall also welcomed new staff members and recognized veteran staff members for longevity during the ceremony. Many of the members have more than 10 years experience in Jay, and 31 people have 25 years or more of service to the system. The latter group has collectively more than 882 years of experience, Wall told those gathered.

Jay School Committee Chairman Jim Durrell passed out Cross Pens to staff with 25 plus years service.

In that group are: 35 years, Karen Mitchell; 33 years, Kenneth White, Michelle Riley, Jonne Gross, Sherry Gilbert; 32 years, Donna Boone; 31 years, Linwood Worcester, Michael Henry, Mary Binette; 30 years, Donna Labbe; 29 years, Donato Iannucci, Shirley LeSuer; 28 years, Bill Biliouris, Bob Fitzgerald, Diane McDonald, Gloria Fournier; 27 years, Melissa Allen, Geraldine Bibeau, Judy Ouellette; 26 years, Norwood Farrington, Terry Leclerc, Lyn Lewia, Linda Davis, Lynn Ouellette, Jean Breton, Myrtle Taylor, Susan Mancine; 25 years, Pam McAllister, Carol Hardy, Mike Simoneau and Kay Seefeldt.
