BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) – A Rutland man was sentenced on Tuesday to serve nearly 25 years in prison on charges of robbing two banks.

Darrell Laflam, who is also known as Darrell Charbonneau, was charged with robbing the branches of the Charter One Bank in Proctor and in Pawlett two years ago.

In February, a federal jury found Laflam guilty of two counts of bank robbery, two counts of armed bank robbery and one count of obstruction of justice.

In both heists on Nov. 16 and Dec. 31 of 2001, Laflam wore a mask, pointed a gun at tellers and demanded cash.

He stole $5085 from the Proctor branch and $5,637 from the Pawlett branch, police said.

In each robbery police found a piece of Laflam’s clothing near the bank.

In the second heist, Laflam fled in a car driven by Danielle McCullough, police said.

He was arrested in March after McCullough cooperated with law enforcement agencies, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
