TURNER – A 17-year-old local boy was critically injured and two other teens hurt late Tuesday night in a car crash on Lower Road.

Police said alcohol appeared to be a factor, although no charges had been filed on Wednesday.

Investigators said Jeremy Oakes, 18, of Leeds, was driving when he lost control of the car and struck a parked car and then a tree. Police believe Oakes became distracted moments before he crashed.

“He stated he was changing a radio station when he lost control,” said Maine State Police Trooper Shawn Labrie.

Oakes was hurt in the 10 p.m. wreck but not critically. A 14-year-old girl who was riding in the car was also injured.

Police said all of the teens are from the Turner-Leeds area. Investigators did not identify the younger teens.

The 17-year-old boy sitting in the passenger seat suffered the most extensive injuries, police said. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight helicopter.

The other victims were taken to CMMC by ambulance. Their conditions were not known on Wednesday. Police said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
