NEW GLOUCESTER – Replacement of a collapsed culvert will close Route 231 in New Gloucester to through traffic for a week, beginning Wednesday, Sept 3.
“A culvert carrying Route 231 over Bear Brook, about half way between the New Gloucester-Pownal town line and U.S. Route 202, has collapsed and needs to replaced,” said Blair Watson of state Department of Transportation’s Scarborough office.
“In order to do that, we need to close Route 231 to all traffic in the vicinity of the culvert. The closure will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and should be lifted on Wednesday, Sept. 10,” he added.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Penny Road and the New Gloucester Hill Road, Watson said.
