DIXFIELD – The town that bills itself as the only such named town in the world has a new, bigger and better photographically-enriched Web site.

Economic Development Council Chairwoman Norine Clarke briefly outlined the site – www.dixfield.org/history.html – to selectmen at the board’s Monday night meeting.

“It’s very good and the corrections to it are nearly complete,” Clarke said.

In addition to listing the town’s history, municipal departments, church and civic groups, area businesses, bicentennial events and meeting times, minutes from selectmen’s meetings may also be posted for online scrutiny, said Town Manager Nanci Allard.

Clarke said the council is also publishing a new four-fold brochure to further market the town at the River Valley Expo on Sept. 26 and 27 at Rumford’s Mountain Valley High School.

The first Expo is meant to showcase virtually everything the River Valley has to offer in what is hoped to be an annual event.

River Valley towns include Andover, Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Hanover, Mexico, Peru, Roxbury and Rumford.

Clarke repeatedly stressed the importance of having selectmen and/or Allard at Dixfield’s Expo booth, which the council purchased for $100.

Responding to selectmen’s Chairman Hugh Daley’s suggestion that Clarke run the booth, she said, “I have too many hats to wear that day.”

Because Clarke and husband, Ralph, own and operate Log Cabin Craftworks at 31 Main St. in Dixfield, she said they will be running their own booth at the Expo.

After a brief discussion, Daley said he and his wife could run Dixfield’s booth on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Selectman Stephen Donahue said he could do it on Sunday, Sept. 28.
