NEW SHARON – Selectmen were updated by the fire chief and code enforcement officer, opened snow removal bids and fielded questions from residents during their Aug. 20 meeting.

Jeff Bracket, fire chief, reported that a chassis for the rescue truck had been located in New Jersey. Selectmen approved and paid the invoice for the chassis. Next, the chassis will be customized with compartments to hold emergency medical equipment and other rescue gear. The new truck will seat five.

It’s expected that the retrofit will be completed by April, 2004.

Donald Lowe, code enforcement officer, advised that his office was busier than last year with inspections.

Selectmen received two bids for the town snow removal contract. Last year the town’s snow removal costs were $80,000. This year’s bids are in line with last year. Bids are being reviewed by the selectman. The contract for snow removal will be awarded in the next few weeks, they said.
