1928 – 2003

LIVERMORE – Ruth W. Brophy, 75, a resident of Gibbs Mill Road in Livermore, died Friday, Aug. 29, at her home surrounded by her family following a long illness.

She was born in Skowhegan on Feb. 19, 1928, the daughter of Ralph and Irene Kitchen Weston. She was a 1946 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Thomas College in Waterville.

On March 16, 1951 she married Richard A. Brophy in Fairfield. They made their home and raised their family in Livermore Falls. She was a member of the Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore, a member of the Rebekah J.C. Auxiliary, a charter member of the Rebekah’s in Sarasota, Fla., and a former member of the Kings Daughters.

She and her husband were very active in the Spruce Mountain Ski Club where she was a charter member and also a member of the Area Youth Sports. She served on the MSAD #36 School Board for 10 years and was also involved in the music and sports booster club.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending her time with them and will always have fond memories of family gatherings and their time together. She enjoyed her home and was very proud of her flower garden.

She and her husband have lived on Long Pond year-round for 20 years, having owned the camp for 40 years. They also enjoyed their winters in Sarasota, Fla., for the past eight years.

In her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge, line dancing, doing various types of needlework, catering and playing cribbage with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years of Livermore; three daughters, Roxanna Brophy of South Portland, Rebecca Bowie and her husband Jeffrey of Suwanee, Ga., Robyn Brochu and her husband Francis “Butch” of Havre De Grace, Md.; a son, Richard Brophy of Portland; a brother, Ralph Weston and his wife Dolores of Skowhegan; a sister, Mary MacGregor and her husband Roy of Bangor; and seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Brochu, Katie Brochu and Thomas Brochu, Elizabeth Bowie, Joshua Bowie, Hannah Bowie and Jessie Cyr- Brophy.
