GREENE – Androscoggin Grange 8 of 99 Main St. now has a wheelchair ramp and updated bathroom facilities for the handicapped.
The work was made possible by a $4,000 matching grant from the Maine Community Foundation sponsored by the Greene Economic and Community Development Group.
The town contributed $1,500, and cash donations from business owners and in-kind services have assisted the grange in updating its facility.
Much of the work was done by volunteers and members of the grange. A new well has been drilled to provide for indoor plumbing.
Androscoggin Grange is one of the few granges that has seen growth in the last few years. Its home is a classic turn-of-the-century grange with ornate woodwork and a performing arts center on the second floor. The building is one of the few historical structures left in Greene and the Grange remains an active part of the community.
