WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will observe Family and Music Night Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Grange Hall on Old Lewiston Road. The hall is handicap accessible. A potluck supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Bring casseroles and salads; dessert will be provided. Family, friends and neighbors are invited.
The music program at 6:30 p.m., which is open to the public, will feature the Olde Tyme Music Makers. A business meeting will follow, where certificates for 50- and 60-year membership will be presented by State Deputy Vernon Dunn of Belgrade. The charter will be draped in memory of Dorothy Irish, Donald Yeaton and Gilbert “Bud” Clifford.
Pomona speaker
LISBON – Androscoggin Pomona will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Pine Tree Grange. Stephenie Gilbert from the Maine Department of Agriculture will speak about Farmland Preservation in Maine and what the Grange can do to assist in this effort. The King Arthur Flour Cupcake Baking contest will be judged. All entries must arrive by 7 p.m. All members are asked to bring something to share for potluck refreshments, which will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Descendants meet
TOPSHAM – The Benjamin and Clara Boulet descendants will meet at noon on Friday, Sept. 5, at the Sea Dog restaurant.
The members held a summer outing at Estes in South Harpswell in August. There were 23 descendants attending.
Family day
AUBURN – The Margaret Murphy Center for Children will hold a family day walk-a-thon on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Central Maine Community College. Registration will be held at 8 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9.
Events will include visits from Slugger and Wiggles and magician Bob Nixon. Cheerleading will take place and Dick Raymond, DJ, will play music. The center is a nonprofit school for autistic children.
Peace meeting
WINTHROP – The Winthrop Area People for Peace will hold the monthly potluck breakfast meeting from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Winthrop Congregational Church, Main Street. Youth night
AUBURN – Alden Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St., will hold a youth night and membership meeting on Monday, Sept. 8. A social hour will start at 5 p.m. followed by a smothered beef dinner at 6 p.m.
At 7 p.m., there will be a program consisting of Girls and Boys State delegates sponsored by the post unit, also member of the Legion Gayton baseball players.
Invited guests will be parents of delegates and players. Special invited guests will be Department of Maine Legion Auxiliary President Diane Martell, Second District President Elaine Rogers, Androscoggin County President Julie Rowe, Girls State Gov. Rhea Kappa, Girls State delegate Meagan Skilling. Legion Department Vice Commander William Bickford, Department Americanism officer Donald Simoneau, state baseball director Brian Strickland and Boys State delegate Peter Wescott.
Following a short recess, the post will hold a membership meeting. On the agenda will be committee reports and plans for the post activities for the coming year. All members are invited. Dance classes
LEWISTON – Irish “ceili” folk dance classes will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 8 at St. Patrick’s Church hall, corner of Walnut and Blake streets.
Cost is $3 a person for each lesson. Dress is informal, and the classes are open to singles and couples.

On-going programs beginning Sept. 8 will include a support group, Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; coffee hour, Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.; amateurs painting, Fridays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Scheduled programs, Sept. 8 to Nov. 21 include knitting, Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with Ann Ouellette; crochet, Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon with Venise Langlois; lap quilting, Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon with Muriel Saindon.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 26 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Dr. Randy Silver and Marguerite Zahoruiko; tied at third, David Lock and Martine Begert with Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; fifth,- Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer; sixth, Connie Reynolds and Claire Lyons.
Winners in Flight B were: first, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the center. A partner is guaranteed at this game.
The club also met on Aug. 27th at Schooner Estates. Winners in Flight A were: tied at
first, Bruce Murray and Lucille Theriault with Leslie Buzzell and Mike Quinn; third, Ron and Connie Reynolds; fourth, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; fifth, Luke Merry and Paul Barber.
Flight B winners were: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; tied at second, Doug and Betty Sise with Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. Note that next Wednesday’s game, Sept. 3, will not be held. There will be a game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, instead. The group will return to the regular schedule on Sept. 10 at which time the ACBL Instant Matchpoint game that offers gold points for section tops will be held. This game will be stratified.
