LIVERMORE FALLS – Several appointments have been made by SAD 36 Superintendent Terry Despres as the new school year is about to begin.
Named as educational technicians III at the high school were Laurie Cullen and James Stoneton.
Appointed as curriculum instruction advisors were Karen Hardy for the elementary school, Sally Rees-Speich for the middle school and Pauline Gill for the high school.
The resignation of Tonnie Condon, second grade teacher, was accepted and Despres announced that a long term substitute had been hired to take her place.
Named to co-curricular/extra-curricular positions were: Brad Bishop as head football coach with Kevin Daoust, Travis White and Robert Durrell as assistants; Larry Thornton as soccer coach, Amy Druzba as field hockey coach with Julia Parker as assistant, Mark Cyr as golf coach and Cathy Nichols as fall cheering coach.
An open house at the recently renovated Cedar Street complex (former Intermediate Learning Center) will be held in late September, Despres announced. He would like to combine a public open house in the afternoon and early evening with a banquet welcoming new staff and honoring former ones.
The superintendent distributed the grade I social studies curriculum as an addition to those for the other grades that were given out at the last meeting.
This is the first curriculum that has been aligned with the Learning Results and a presentation will be made at the next meeting, he said.
Snow bids are due by Sept. 24. The town of Livermore will be unable to plow the school due to manpower and equipment constraints, Despres reported, and he is still talking with some Livermore Falls drivers on some arrangements.
An addition must be made to the facilities use form to cover doors being left open. When a door is found unlocked, the entire building has to be secured, he said.
The district is in the process of hiring a new fields maintenance team as the one doing the work has gone out of business. The Livermore field is ready for soccer and there will soon be water available for the football field, Despres said.
The middle school will have its opening day cookout on Monday, Labor Day, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., according to Principal Matt Gilbert and tours will be available to see what has been done.
The high school cook-out will be on Thursday, when all students report for classes, said Principal Rod Wright.
He also reported the gym floor at the high school has been completed and there will be no walking on it with street shoes.
A roll out cover is available for use when there are public activities.
