RUMFORD – Western Maine Beekeepers Association is having a slide show and presentation by Tony Jadczak, state apiarist, on preparing honey bees for winter.

The presentation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Rumford Library.

There is no cost for this session, and it is open to all local beekeepers.

This past winter was hard on honey bees, and Jadczak will share the latest information on over-wintering strategies and medications to help assure survival.

VFW observance

PARIS – The monthly meeting of the Floyd A. Harlow Post, VFW and Auxiliary, will take place at the post home on Lower Main Street in South Paris, Wednesday, Sept. 3. There will be a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by a supper at 6.

They will be observing POW/MIA night and there will be a school of instruction by Quartermaster Myron Pierce. Both units will hold their regular meetings at 7. All members are invited.

Library speaker

BRYANT POND – David Conary, a nature photographer who has several underwater photos on display in the New England Aquarium in Boston, is a recent nominee for poet of the year and noted in Who’s Who in Poetry, will be the featured speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

He will be reciting some of his poetry as well. The public is welcome.
