BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic will sponsor its Diabetes Education Program Sept. 10, 11, 15, 17 and 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the new hospital clinic wing. Bridgton Hospital has received the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program.

The series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention). Topics covered include: What is Diabetes Mellitus?, Complications and Diabetes, Proper Foot Care and Diabetes, Meal Plans and Diabetes, Exercise and Diabetes, and Medications For Diabetes.

In addition to Elaine Drew, a registered nurse who is also a certified diabetes nurse educator, lecturers will include Dr. Shannon Meredith, podiatrist; Dr. Scott Ferguson, optometrist; Linda Russell, licensed dietician; Dr. Chuck Frost, pharmacist; and Chris Roy, physical therapist. These classes will give general information about diabetes and help the patient manage his or her diabetes. The course also introduces patients to a diabetes support system. A dietary consultation is required, and should be done before the classes begin. Contact Linda Russell at 647-6062 to schedule an appointment.

Participants are encouraged to bring a relative or a friend with them. For more information about the program or to register call Elaine Drew at 207-647-6060.
