PARIS – Oxford County commissioners have selected all but one of the members who will serve on this year’s Budget Committee.
Commissioners hope the members will take time to talk to county department heads about their requests either before or after the public hearing, which takes place at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 in the commissioner’s office in the Oxford County Superior Court building.
“We’re going to invite all the members, at their convenience, to come talk to department heads,” County Administrative Assistant Carole Mahoney said Tuesday.
Several committee members complained last year that budget requests from the various departments weren’t adequately explained to them.
The commissioners will submit their own budget estimate for the various columns at their regular meeting Oct. 21.
The Budget Committee will then meet for a work session at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 in the commissioner’s office.
Under state law, commissioners must act on a final budget by Dec. 15.
Members of the 2003-2004 Budget Committee are: Monique Aniel, Mexico; Fred Henderson, Greenwood; Russell Newcomb, Norway; Eugene Boivin, Rumford; Bruce Hanson, Paris; Robert Heard, Porter; Bruce Bean, Magalloway Plantation; and Dennis Sanborn, Oxford. One other person remains to be appointed.
