LEWISTON – Monsignor Marc Caron will be the guest speaker of the Saints Peter and Paul Society on Sunday, Sept. 14, after the 8 a.m. breakfast meeting in the Dominican Conference Room. Caron’s topic will be “Forty Years Since Vatican II: Myth and Reality.”
Caron is a native of Lewiston and a member of the class of 1981 of St. Dominic Regional High School. He graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College and was a member of Alpha Rho and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities.
He completed seminary studies at Catholic University of America and was ordained a priest by Bishop Amedee Proulx on May 20, 1989. From 1989 to 1992 he served as parochial vicar at St. Louis Parish, Fort Kent, and as chaplain at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
From 1992 to 1995 he served as parochial vicar at St. Joseph’s Parish, Biddeford, and chaplain at the University of New England. From 1995 to 1997 he completed a licentiate degree in theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., specializing in liturgical studies.
Since 1997 he has served as one of the chancellors of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. In addition he directs the diocesan office of worship and is the head of the Department of Ministerial Services of the chancery. He is also the author of a number of articles.
