MAGALLOWAY PLANTATION – A Massachusetts man was arrested Sunday on charges of providing alcohol and marijuana to his brother’s 19-year-old girlfriend during a camping trip.

Oxford County deputies and a state warden paddled across Little Beaver Pond to arrest Joseph A. Fulginiti, 23, of Shrewsbury, at the family’s campsite.

“We fingerprinted him, photographed him and basically (bailed) him right there,” Oxford County Sheriff’s Department Capt. James P. Miclon said. Fulginiti was also issued a summons on a charge of possessing a usable amount of marijuana.

Miclon said Fulginiti, his brother Mark, 21, and his father, Joseph P. Fulginiti, all of Shrewsbury, were camping at the pond along with Mark’s 19-year-old girlfriend from Beverly, Mass.

Joseph is accused of drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana with the teen.

About 3 a.m. Mark woke up and saw that Joseph and his girlfriend were missing from the cabin, Miclon said. He found them in the cook shack next door.

Mark and his girlfriend then canoed across the pond and went to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, N.H., where she was examined.

Police were notified of the incident and Miclon, Oxford County Sgt. Gary L. Hill and Maine Warden Service warden Norman Lewis paddled across the pond to charge Joseph, he said.

Miclon said the man and his family were cooperative.

Joseph is scheduled to appear in 11th District Court in Rumford on Oct. 7, Miclon said.
