BRUNSWICK – Margaret Theresa Anthoine of Lewiston, died unexpectedly Monday evening, Sept. 1, at Mid-Coast Hospital.

Born in Lewiston, she was the daughter of William J. and Bernadette Genest Mynahan. She attended Wallace School and was a graduate of Lewiston High School.

She married Thomas Joseph Anthoine Sr. on Sept. 14, 1935, at St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Webster Street in Lewiston where she resided until her death.

Mr. Anthoine passed away on May 31, 1994. She was a homemaker for most of her life and she was active in church and community affairs.

She was the payroll clerk for the family business, Anthoine Rubber Co. She was a member of the Junior Guild, the St. Patrick’s Rosary Sodality, the Woman’s Literary Union, including their garden club, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

She was also a long-time member of the St. Patrick’s Church Choir with which she traveled to New York, Europe, Japan, and Venezuela. She also chaired fundraising events sponsored by the choir.

She spent many years as a summer resident of Harpswell. She was a wonderful and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin to her large family. She will be remembered for her generosity and for being a loyal and trustworthy friend.

She simply enjoyed life. She was happiest when spending time with her family. She enjoyed family gatherings the most, especially during the holidays. This is a tradition that is being carried on by her son. The most recent gathering was Sunday, the day prior to her death.

She enjoyed needlework, reading, and traveling, especially to Las Vegas, where she recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her children. She continued to do many wonderful things despite being afflicted with Macular Degeneration.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Thomas J. and Barbara A. Anthoine Jr. of Lewiston; two daughters, Maureen Margaret Anthoine-Orlandini of Harpswell, and Mary-Margaret and her husband Robert J. Ney of Kennebunk; five grandchildren, Thomas J. Anthoine III, Michael A. Anthoine, Mark W. Anthoine, Barbara A. Barry, and Scott P. Anthoine; eight great-grandchildren, Thomas J. Anthoine IV, Meghan C. Anthoine, Caitlin E. Anthoine, Meredith C. Anthoine, Mark W. Anthoine Jr., Connor R. Anthoine, Katherine M. Antoine, and Jack T. Barry; three brothers, William, Maurice, and Bernard Mynahan; three sisters, Louise Giguere, Phyllis Marie Theberge, and Eleanor Bruce; one sister-in-law, Rita Mynahan; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her stepmother, Louise Mynahan; her sister, Dorothy; her brothers, Joseph and Eugene; and her granddaughter, Julia Margaret Harrison.
