JAY – Selectmen voted Tuesday to get out of the portable toilet rental business.

It cost the town more than $2,400 to lease and then replace two portable toilets in the last two years.

One was smashed, tipped over and a dead dog found inside last year, selectmen’s Chairman Bill Harlow said, and the other was burned up this year.

Two suppliers no longer want to do business with the town because of the toilets destroyed at Dow Field off Route 133 and Stone Field, behind the former Jay Family Restaurant.

Area Youth Sports had requested the town supply the toilets for the public’s use at the fields.
