TORONTO – Josh Phelps hit a two-run homer and Eric Hinske hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh inning as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied from a three-run deficit to beat the New York Yankees 4-3.

Phelps hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Mike Mussina in the fourth that cut New York’s lead to 3-2. Phelps has homered in four of his last five games.

Bobby Kielty hit a tying sacrifice fly in the sixth. After Vernon Wells singled off Antonio Osuna (2-5) in the seventh, Myers doubled off Gabe White. Phelps was intentionally walked and Hinske hit his sacrifice fly.

Jason Kershner (1-3) pitched two innings for his first major league win, and Aquilino Lopez got the last out for his eighth save in 10 chances.

New York’s AL East lead was cut to three games over second-place Boston.

Greg Myers went 3-for-4 for the Blue Jays, who have won the first two games of the three-game series.

Jason Giambi ended the longest hitless stretch of his career at 25 at-bats when he his 36th homer in the fourth off Kelvim Escobar. One batter later, Jorge Posada hit his 27th homer for a 3-0 lead.

Aaron Boone had doubled in the third and scored on Karim Garcia’s RBI single.

Mussina hit two batters and gave up a single that loaded the bases in the fifth, but Carlos Delgado struck out. Toronto loaded the bases again in the sixth before Kielty hit his sacrifice fly.

Notes: Giambi, New York’s first baseman, let an easy pop fly drop in foul territory in the second inning. … Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey introduced a laser light show from a helicopter above SkyDome between the fifth and sixth innings. The light show reflected off the roof of SkyDome and was shown on the Jumbotron, but the Jumbotron lost the feed at one point and fans booed after being unable to clearly see what was being reflected. The Blue Jays have been promoting their new logo, which was unveiled Tuesday night.
