Norine Clarke believes in the power of civic pride. That’s why she’s seeking volunteers to represent Dixfield at the upcoming River Valley Expo 2003 in Rumford.

Clarke, a local business owner and chairwoman of Dixfield’s Economic Development Council, said the council needs volunteers to staff a reserved Expo booth and to help set up the display.

“Mexico and Rumford have booths, so it behooves us to be there,” Clarke said Friday. “We have had a pretty successful bicentennial this year and we need to show that we have some civic pride, too, and show some of that to the Valley.”

The first Expo is meant to showcase virtually everything the River Valley has to offer. It will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27, at Rumford’s Mountain Valley High School.

Clarke said volunteers are needed to help erect the town’s display from 12 to 3 p.m. Friday and staffing is desired from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

“A willing spirit and a welcoming smile are the only requirements. Any local citizen who cares about our town is encouraged to be there and convey that attitude. We need to cover those hours. I’m desperate. Without more support, we won’t be there,” Clarke said.

Experience for running a civic booth is not necessary. Clarke said the council will train volunteers and get them needed permission badges and parking passes for the event.

Dixfield: New

Web site online

Thanks to the Dixfield Economic Development Council and a local teacher, the town that prides itself on being the only such named town in the world, now has its own domain name.

Citing Web master John Bernard of River Valley Graphics, council Chairman Norine Clarke said the town’s Web site, www.dixfield.org, is now online.

“It’s up and running and the new look and corrections are due to John,” Clarke said.

Unlike the previous site, the new home page incorporates the Water Department. Links are also provided for Dixfield’s police and fire department Web sites.
