PORTLAND – MEMIC Safety Academy, the workplace safety education arm of Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company, has earned authorization from the International Association of Continuing Education and Training to provide Continuing Education Units to those completing the academy’s safety workshops.
According to the association, MEMIC Safety Academy is the first entity in Maine and is one of just four insurers in New England to earn this authorization. Approximately 480 entities across the nation have earned the association CEU authorization.
The CEUs are used by many national professional organizations which require the credits to maintain certifications.
According to the association, this authorization, granted after a review of the MEMIC Safety Academy application and a site visit, demonstrates compliance with proven, research-based criteria created in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education.
The MEMIC Safety Academy offers education programs to policyholders of MEMIC, based in Portland, and its subsidiary, MEMIC Indemnity Company, based in Manchester, N.H. Each year nearly 10,000 workers complete these programs through MEMIC. Workshops focus on workplace safety for various industries and job types. Topics include ergonomics and leadership, as well as specialized programs in safety for the construction, manufacturing, healthcare and service industries. These programs are free to policyholders of the company.
