LIVERMORE FALLS – Former highway employee Ralph Black was allowed to resign his position instead of being terminated by the town.

Selectmen made the decision to accept Black’s resignation effective Jan. 3, Tuesday night on the advice of the town’s attorney, selectmen’s Chairman Bill Demaray said Wednesday.

Black of Fayette was terminated by Town Manager Alan Gove, whose decision was later confirmed by selectmen, after Black was charged in January with operating under the influence when he was called out to pre-treat town roads before a storm.

Black allegedly had backed into a house with a town plow truck and went off the road later that evening.

Black, 55, pleaded guilty in June to operating under the influence. He had appealed the town’s decision to dismiss him through the union.

Black was unavailable for comment.
