LEWISTON – The Androscoggin County GOP Women’s Club will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Ramada Inn. The speaker will be Rep. Thomas Shields, District 72, retired physician. All Republican women are invited. Lunch will follow the meeting and speaker.

Chapter Martel

AUBURN – Chapter Martel, Association Canado-Americaine, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Heritage Apartments Hall, Spring Street, after an optional meal at the Multi-Purpose Center, Birch Street, Lewiston. Transportation will be provided for members needing it. Delegates will report on the last general convention in Nashua, N.H.

Club re-elects

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club held its annual luncheon and meeting at the Munroe Inn, 123 Pleasant St.

Annual reports were read and accepted. The current officers were re-elected: president, Jean Payne; vice president, Mrs. John O’Donnell; secretary, Mrs. Frank Riley; floral, Mrs. Wilfred Godin; publicity, Louise Twaddle. Members adjourned to the dining room for a luncheon.

The first fall meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the WLU, Elm Street. Hostesses will be Mary Godin, chairwoman, Mary Bell and Frances Nason, and program, Mary Riley. The topic will be “Journey to South Africa” with Joyce Perry. She will share her Peace Corps experiences through her watercolor paintings.

AUBURN – Cub and Boy Scouts of New Auburn Post 153, American Legion, will hold Scouting Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the post, South Main Street. Food for thought

LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon lecture series program for Tuesday, Sept. 9, at L-A College will present John O’Malley, who will discuss “How to Protect Your Assets,” exploring methods to plan for anticipated health and medical expenses.

He will review the roles of Medicare, long-term health insurance and life insurance in meeting late-life financial obligations. O’Malley, a native of Lewiston, owns and operates a financial services firm, O’Malley Associates, in Lewiston.

The noon program cost is $5, which includes lunch. Call 753-6510 for reservations.

OES meeting

WALES – Lakeside Chapter, OES, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Wales Grange Hall. Members will honor past matrons and past patrons and welcome all to Wales. Note: The renovations on the building are not complete. Light refreshments will be served.

TURNER – The Androscoggin County Firefighters Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Turner Fire Station.

Writers’ jam

LEWISTON – Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance will present an informal writers’ jam on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Mr. Paperback Cafe, Promenade Mall, Lisbon Street. AUBURN – Finders/Seekers Child Care Resource Development Center will sponsor the presentation of core knowledge portfolio development from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Community Concepts, 79 Main St. Registration is $10.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston High School class of 1983 will hold its 20-year reunion at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Lost Valley in Auburn. Line dancing

LEWISTON – Line dancing registrations will be taken through Sept. 12 for the Multi-Purpose Center’s 10-week class from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Sept. 15.

The classes will be taught by Sue Driscoll. The cost is as follows: Lewiston residents, $35; non-residents, $45; Lewiston senior citizens, $20. Swim lessons

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn/Lewiston is accepting registration for its fall session of Parent and Tot (6 to 8 months), Water Babies (18 to 24 months), Tiny Tots (ages 2 to 5), Youth (ages 6 to 17) and adult swim lessons. Each program runs in eight-week sessions beginning the week of Sept. 15.
