RUMFORD – Police credited a Dixfield officer with catching two drivers allegedly involved Tuesday in separate hit-and-run incidents.

At 9 p.m. Tuesday, a vehicle backed into a Cumberland Street apartment building and left the scene.

After Rumford police ran the license plate identified by a witness and notified Dixfield police, officer Mark Dow caught Dixfield-resident Betty Salatino, 54, in Dixfield and waited for Rumford officer Michael Halacy to arrest and take her into custody, said Sgt. Stacy Carter.

Salatino was charged with operating under the influence, second offense, and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident. She was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.

Earlier Tuesday, at 3:48 p.m., Carter said a 25-year-old Rumford man was walking across Congress Street when the driver of a truck ran over his foot and did not stop.

Rumford police issued a bulletin alerting River Valley area police to the incident.

“Luckily, the victim got the truck’s license plate number,” Carter said Thursday evening.

Dow caught up with Mexico-resident Ronald McIntire, 67, in Mexico, and held him in custody until Rumford officer James Bernard arrived.

After a breath test was administered at Rumford’s police station, Bernard was issued a summons for operating under the influence, Carter added.
